چکیده

Hail, D. R. (1974). Thorax, 29, 425-431. Regional lung function after pneumonectomy. Regional lung function was studied with xenon-133 in 10 patients with bronchial carcinoma before and again three to six months after pneumonectomy. It was found that ventilation and perfusion were often considerably reduced in the tumour-bearing lung and that the greater part of the cardiac output had apparently been diverted to the unaffected lung before operation. The regional distribution of ventilation and perfusion in the lung remaining after surgery was essentially unchanged from that measured in the same lung preoperatively and no different from the pattern seen in 10 normal volunteers.

Determination of the Effects of Digoxin on the Right Ventricular Function in Patients Undergoing Pneumonectomy

Introduction: Pneumonectomy is the standard treatment of lung cancer, even though patients should undergo several evaluations before surgery; deterioration of cardiopulmonary function after pulmonary resection is inevitable. We have evaluated the effects of digoxin on the improvement of right ventricular function and prevention of probable complications after lung resection surgery. Materials a...

Regional lung growth following pneumonectomy assessed by computed tomography.

After pneumonectomy (PNX), mechanical strain on the remaining lung is greatly increased. To assess whether remaining lobes expand uniformly after left or right PNX (removing 42 and 58% of lung mass, respectively), we performed high-resolution computed tomography (CT) scans at 45 ml/kg above end-expiratory lung volume on adult male foxhounds after left or right PNX, which were compared with adul...

Evaluation of left and right ventricular myocardial function after lung resection using speckle tracking echocardiography

The impact of major lung resections on myocardial function has not been well-investigated. We aimed to identify this impact through the use of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) to evaluate the right and left ventricular myocardial function in patients who underwent lung resections.Thirty patients who had lung resections were recruited for this study. Ten patients who underwent pneumonecto...

Effects of lung resection on pulmonary function and exercise capacity.

The effects of lung resection on exercise capacity and perception of symptoms were studied in 47 patients aged 39-73 (mean 58.3) years. Twenty had a pneumonectomy and 27 a lobectomy, all for lung cancer. Forced expiratory volume, maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures, and progressive maximal one minute incremental cycle ergometer exercise performance were measured before and after surger...
